Hector Berlioz: Te Deum, Winchester Cathedral 1979

This huge and dramatic choral work was recorded during the 900th anniversary celebration of Winchester Cathedral in the summer of 1979. The London Symphony Orchestra and augmented cathedral choir were conducted by Martin Neary, who was the cathedral organist and director of music from 1972 to 1988, with James Treleaven, tenor and James Lancelot, organ, who was the cathedral sub-organist from 1975 to 1985 before moving to Durham Cathedral as organist and master of the choristers, a position he retired from after 32 years in the summer of 2017.

It was originally televised by Southern Television. Recently it was shown on the French catholic TV station KTO and recorded in the U.K. off-air via satellite.
